While the new Mareterra district was unveiled on December 4, this impressive extension at sea is now home to the brand  new restaurant of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) Group: Marlow. Inaugurated this Wednesday, January 15 by HSH Prince Albert II, accompanied by Stéphane Valeri, Deputy Chairman of the SBM and Albert Manzone, Managing Director. An intimate inauguration in the presence of Pierre-André CHIAPPORI, Government Advisor-Minister of Finance and Economy, Thomas Brezzo, President of the National Council, Georges Marsan, Mayor of Monaco, and Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc.

The official and institutional guests of Monaco were welcomed by Bryan Gaillard, Director of the establishment, before opening to the public on January 16. Marlow pays tribute to the elegance of the other side of the Channel, as it did to the very first customers who frequented the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer establishments, more than 160 years ago. This warm and sophisticated place welcomes its customers in the chic and relaxed atmosphere of an English club. People meet there, at any time of the day or evening, around English specialties, or a cocktail. With Marlow, the Art of living Monte-Carlo style takes on English accents.

Marlow : so chic, so british

After almost eight years of work, the Mareterra offshore extension has extended the territory of the Principality of Monaco by six hectares. It is in the heart of this new district, on Place Princesse Gabriella, that the Marlow restaurant was inaugurated on January 15, in an intimate format, before opening to the public the following day. This opening is part of the Group’s development strategy in Monaco, led by the Deputy Chairman, Stéphane Valeri, and his teams. It was coordinated by Albert Manzone, Managing Director, in conjunction with the Real Estate Development Department and the Construction and Built Heritage Department. More than a restaurant, this new “all day dining” concept made in Monte-Carlo aims to be the Monegasque symbol of the Anglo-Saxon club spirit.

HSH Prince Albert II, Stéphane Valeri, Deputy Chairman of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer and Bryan Gaillard, Director of the Marlow restaurant .

For Albert Manzone, Managing Director of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer:

“Marlow is an addition to the collection of bars and restaurants at Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which already has around thirty addresses in Monaco. This new Maison concept was created to appeal to the largely English-speaking clientele of the new Monaco district, but also, of course, Monaco residents and visitors to the Principality.”

Marlow: Welcome to Lady M. Inspired by late 19th century English literature, Marlow tells the story of Lady M., a whimsical British lady, who welcomes her guests into a unique world. The Marlow experience evolves throughout the day and evening. Anglo-Saxon specialties are featured from breakfast to dinner, from Tea Time to aperitif. To guarantee the So British touch, the management of the establishment was entrusted to Bryan Gaillard. Although he studied in Paris, he mainly worked in famous clubs and restaurants in London. For four years, Bryan managed the points of sale of The London EDITION hotel (5-star boutique hotels), including the Michelin-starred restaurant Berners Tavern. He then continued his career as Director of Brilliant Corners and Mu for 2 years, two establishments offering catering, bar and live music.études à Paris, c’est principalement dans des clubs et restaurants réputés de Londres qu’il a travaillé.

Custom-designed interior architecture by Hugo Toro

The artist architect and interior designer Hugo Toro, of Franco-Mexican origin, unveils a superb decor that extends over more than 300 m2 indoors and 100 m2 on the terrace. A place of Anglo-Saxon inspiration, mixing the codes of an English private club and the Mediterranean sun. A signature already appreciated throughout the world, notably at the Michelin-starred restaurant PUR’, Place Vendôme in Paris, at the Midland Dining Room at St Pancras station in London, at L’atelier de la Villa Albertine in New York, and coming in the spring, at the first Orient Express hotel in Rome. For Marlow, Hugo Toro imagined a 360-degree decor entirely designed to measure: from the architecture to the lighting, including the furniture and the door handles. The Victorian universe and its wooded architecture blend with coral-inspired patterns. A unique project with different spaces (seafood counter, private lounge, music stage), all centered around a central bar. A warm light that floods the customer experience, from dawn to dusk by candlelight. The attention to detail is omnipresent and combines raw and sophisticated materials (decorative patinas, shiny woods, pink and sea green marbles, Murano glass, custom-made lamps and a solid cast iron bar skirt), creating an enveloping atmosphere where aquatic hues create an invitation to travel. In this domestic and architectural setting, we also find Lady M.’s cabinet of curiosities, with an eclectic collection of objects selected by Hugo Toro, art books, and biographies.

An all day English dining

Marlow offers English-inspired cuisine, friendly and comforting, non-stop from 8:30 a.m. to midnight. We meet there for the traditional Full English Breakfast to start the day, for the Brunch à l’plate, on Sunday, with unlimited champagne, or Tea Time, with pastries and small sandwiches, to be enjoyed with a cup of English tea, served according to the English ritual, in a groove, jazzy atmosphere.

The lunch and dinner menu features British specialties, such as Beef Wellington with truffle mash, or Marlow Pie (walnuts, honey, mushrooms, rocket and cheddar). Not forgetting fish, seafood and shellfish, crudo, and caviar, but also Stilton, the famous creamy English blue cheese. There is room for desserts, including the Lord Mess (meringue with seasonal fruits and whipped cream with tonka bean). A Rolls Bar completes the menu with brioche specialties: Lobster Roll, Crab Roll, Grilled Cheese.

In the evening, the place takes on the appearance of an elegant bar, with a cocktail menu inspired by the great British classics, such as the Vesper Martini (so dear to James Bond), the Hanky Panky (created in 1903 at the Savoy, by Ada Coleman, the first barmaid in history), the Milk Punch, the Irish Coffee … A fine selection of whiskeys, cognacs, and old rums, as well as a cigar cellar complete the experience of a real English club.
